What inspired you to start photography?
I grew up loving disposable film cameras, the Fujifilm waterproof ones in particular. Getting back a roll of my friends in the ocean, or frames of how the beach in front of my house looked that summer was always fun to look through. In my teens I started using my Mom's Nikon film camera, it was her Dad's before that and the first 'real' camera I had used. Using it always felt special because of the family ties to it, and even though I shoot mainly digital now, it made me appreciate the weight and power of moments shooting first with film. I think that's why my unreleased archives of my family and the North Shore I shoot on film; it feels like it should be more special because those things are the most special to me.

What drives you to continue progressing and pushing yourself?
For me, progression stems from curiosity. I believe we all have a unique voice and the capability to share a unique point of view, whatever your creative medium is. I appreciate when other photographers share their personal work, it's a vulnerable place to be and that always encourages me to keep documenting what is most important to me. Water photography, especially around surf has had a real action based look for a long time. Sharing a more personal perspective of surfers and what makes living a coastal lifestyle so unique is what pushes me to continue focusing my work in that direction.

What part does fitness / health / wellness play in your life?
Being active, eating clean, getting good sleep, listening to podcasts on wellness, all works together for my overall happiness. Life has a rhythm and all those things are essential for my mental health as well. Balance is a part of that too, I love pizza and doughnuts and spending a few hours binge watching a crime show on the couch.

What has photography taught you about yourself?
Photography has magnified my love for the people and places I've had the privilege of being exposed to. The photos I cherish most are of family, friends, and the North Shore where I grew up. I'm always reminding myself to capture more of that, especially in the moments that don't seem special at the time. There's not a single photo I wish I didn't have of those three things, I only wish I had more.

What would you hope to inspire in the people who look up to you?
If anyone finds inspiration through my work, I'm honored. For photographers or other creatives, I hope it inspires you to pursue what you love most about your personal perspective. Dive deep into that because that's where you'll build your strongest work.
