Who inspired you to start surfing?
My parents have to be my biggest inspirations in surfing. They never forced me into it but it was either be in the water or sit on the beach as a kid.

What drives you to continue progressing and pushing yourself?
Surfing is an outlet for so much in my life. I have always been happiest in the water and feel grounded there. Once that connection is lost it’s not fun for me anymore. The ocean will always be there for me and I do believe that it is a healing place.

What part does fitness / health / wellness play in your life?
Being healthy/active and all around wellness is what my life revolves around. I honestly do not feel the same if I haven’t worked out and eaten well. Don’t get me wrong I love rest days and going out for ice cream but I feel the most energized after good food and a workout. It’s something empowering for me and I crave it.

What has surfing taught you about yourself?
Surfing has taught me that not everything is the same every time and to always be on my toes anticipating my next move. I do like to have a schedule and know what I’m doing but I’ve learned that things can change so quickly so I just need to be prepared for a different outcome.

What would you hope to inspire in the people who look up to you?
I hope to inspire people to enjoy what they’re doing and to be confident in it. I love seeing people pushing themselves and that makes me want to work harder too. When my friends don’t know if they should leap out of their comfort zones I always want to be there to encourage and reassure them and if something doesn’t workout I want to be there for them when they’re ready to try again.

Any words or tips to people who want to start surfing?
For people who want to start surfing- or anything new and challenging for that matter the best advice I could give would be to stick with it. We all experience the embarrassment of messing up doing new things. That embarrassment is something that has always easily discouraged me but I’ve learned that you’re probably not going to get anywhere new if you’re afraid of failing. Pushing yourself safely out of your comfort zone is one of the most exhilarating feelings- Especially when it pays off.
